Driving from Bristol M4/M5
Esmé's Cottage is located in the town of Ivybridge in Devon. The main motorway routes to Devon and the South West are the M4(from London & South East) and the M5(from Birmingham & Midlands). The M4 and M5 converge at Bristol.
After Bristol, follow the M5 south towards Exeter. A few miles after Exeter, the M5 ends and becomes the A38. The A38 skirts the edge of Dartmoor, in the direction of Plymouth. Stay on the A38 for approx 30miles until you come to Ivybridge. It's that simple!
There are two A38 exits for Ivybridge. We prefer to take the 1st exit, signposted Bittaford and Ivybridge Park & Ride. Exit the A38 and turn right at the T-junction. Cross the A38, then turn left onto the Exeter Road towards Ivybridge. Follow this road through pleasant countryside for approximately 3 miles. You will ultimately pass Ivybridge Railway station and Park & Ride on the right. Continue downhill on the Exeter Road into Ivybridge itself.
ParkingEsmé's Cottage is located close to Ivybridge High Street. As the cottage benefits from close proximity to the town centre and local amenities, there is a 2 hour parking restriction outside the Cottage which is effective Mon - Sat between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Cars parked after 4pm may be left in the restricted zone overnight, but should be moved before 10am the next morning. Whilst the restrictions don't appear to be rigorously enforced, for peace of mind we advise guests to make use of the ample unrestricted roadside parking just 30 metres from the Cottage or close to the Ivy Bridge.
Travelling by trainIvybridge is located one stop before Plymouth on the Totnes - Plymouth line. Totnes is served by London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. See the National Rail website for detailed timetables, routes and prices.
The Ivybridge Park & Ride railway station is located approximately 1 mile from Ivybridge town centre. There is a regular flow of taxi traffic to & from the station. However, in order to ensure a timely pick-up, we would advise arranging taxis before your arrival at Ivybridge. Most local taxi drivers will be familiar with the old Ivy Bridge location.
